- Nottinghamshire, like most Police Authorities, has 17 members.
- There are nine Councillors nominated by the local authorities and eight Independent Members who are directly appointed (at least one of the Independent Members should be a magistrate).
Members are expected to:
- shape policy in line with current legislation, which necessitates them to be well aware of the Authority work and responsibilities.
- attend Authority meetings regularly, taking an active role in the decision making process
- take an active role in community engagement to make sure that local needs are being met
- give careful consideration to information supplied to them
- become fully involved in the work of the Authority
- maintain the highest standards of conduct and ethics
- have special links with one of the divisions

Cllr Jon Collins (Chair of the Authority)

Jon is currently Leader of Nottingham City Council. He has been a Councillor in St Ann’s, an inner city ward, in Nottingham since 1987. During this time he has served as Chair of the Community Development Committee, spent 7 years as Deputy Leader and been the Portfolio Holder for Education and Work (1999-2003). Jon chairs the Renewal Community Development Trust and the One City Partnership, the City's Local Strategic Partnership and is a Board Member of the East Midlands Development Agency.
Prior to undertaking his current role as Leader in 2003, Jon completed an MBA (Public Services) and worked as an Urban Regeneration Consultant and Housing Development Officer.
He is interested in Policing as it is one of the key concerns of city residents. He developed the first RESPECT plan in the country to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour. In his spare time Jon is a keen mountaineer, cyclist and tri-athlete.

Cllr Mike Quigley (Joint Vice chair of the Authority)

Following a 30 year career in commerce and industry in the plastics, packaging, engineering and healthcare markets, Mike embarked on a second career working in a variety of senior management roles within the not-for-profit sector.
He has been involved in local government since the 1970s, starting out as a Parish Councillor where he spent several years as Chairman. Mike was first elected to Bassetlaw District Council in 1983 and is currently Leader of the Council, Chairman of the Local Strategic Partnership, and a member of both the East Midlands Regional Assembly and the Local Government Association. He was elected as a Nottinghamshire County Councillor in 2009 and appointed to the Police Authority.
He is a non-executive Director of Bassetlaw PCT, Chairman of Bassetlaw Hospice of the Good Shepherd, a Director of the Crossing Social Enterprise Company and a Governor of Retford Oaks High School. In 2004 Mike was awarded the MBE for services to Bassetlaw Hospice and the people of Retford.

Cllr Glynn Gilfoyle (Joint Vice Chair of the Police Authority)

A former miner, Glynn has over 22 years' experience in Local Government. He has held several positions at both District and County Council level and was the Deputy Leader of Bassetlaw District Council and Chairman of its Crime Reduction Partnership. It was at this time that he pioneered alcohol-free zones in Bassetlaw in order to help combat anti-social behaviour.
He was the previous County Council's Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Partnerships, which covered such diverse areas as Trading Standards, Births, Deaths and Marriages, Community Development, Emergency Planning and Community Safety in its widest sense. He was also Chairman of the Safer Nottinghamshire Board.
Glynn is no stranger to the Police Authority, having been a member prior to his appointment as a County Council Cabinet Member. He is also a school Governor.

Cllr W John Clarke

A self-employed builder and electrician for over 28 years John has been a member of the Authority since 1998 and was Chairman of the Police Authority for 10 years before standing down in 2010. He is County Councillor for Carlton South and Gedling Borough Councillor for Netherfield Ward. He has been a school governor for 17 years and has worked extensively in the local community for the last twenty-five years.
"As a Councillor this role provides me with the opportunity to help solve local problems for local people, many of whose problems are in some form connected with policing. I can take these problems directly to the Chief Constable and other interested parties to ensure that action is taken. That in itself is very rewarding and people know that I am interested in, and will do something about, the issues that affect their quality of life."

Ms Melanie Futer

Melanie brings over 15 years of experience, knowledge and understanding of partnership working to the Police Authority. During her career she has led Crime and Drug Partnerships in Nottinghamshire and Rutland and has also worked within the Police Service and the County and City Councils, where she was heavily involved in community engagement.
She believes that Nottinghamshire is a very diverse county with many different issues that need to be tackled with specific tools: particularly through partnership working, where the Police are a vital element. She feels that Nottinghamshire Police should be supported in their endeavours, but as a public service it is accountable to the people of Nottinghamshire.
She said: "All of us as residents of Nottinghamshire can assist the Police and we often have the solution to some of the issues that arise: therefore constant consultation with the community is essential. I shall endeavour to seek local solutions to local issues."

Ms Kamaljit Gill (BA; MSc)

Kam has been an Independent Member of Nottinghamshire Police Authority since April 2007.
She has extensive knowledge and understanding of welfare rights and advocacy issues through her work in the voluntary and statutory sectors, coupled with a valuable academic background in Social Policy and Criminology.
Kam is currently working on a freelance basis as a member of the DWP Standards Committee with a focus on Disability and Carers Service; A member of the Nottinghamshire Probation Board and as an Independent Assessor for OCPA.
"Working with the Police Authority is both interesting and challenging and I hope to champion the views and needs of vulnerable and underrepresented groups."

Gill Harrison

Dr Philip Hodgson

Phil has over 20 years’ experience of working as a practitioner within a number of organisations that operate across the criminal justice system. In addition to his work with the Police Authority he is employed as a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at the Nottingham Trent University where his teaching and research interests include drugs, young people, policing and partnership working. He was appointed as an Independent Member to the Police Authority in October 2008.
Phil is Vice Chair of the HR and Professional Standards and also sits on the Performance and Policing Committee.

Professor Simon Holdaway
-
Simon left school at 16 and joined the Metropolitan Police Cadet Corps. He subsequently served for 11 years in the Metropolitan Police, during which time he completed his university studies. In the 1970s he left the police to become an academic and has recently retired from Sheffield University, where he was Professor of Criminology and Sociology and Head of the School of Law, the largest such School in the UK with 1,700 students and over 100 staff. Simon is a part time research professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences at Nottingham Trent University.
He has researched and published widely about policing, especially police race relations and police culture. His work on black and minority ethnic officers has informed national policy and he has worked as a consultant in many constabularies, government agencies and other bodies. One of the most challenging times during his career was his work for the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry. He was recently advisor to a parliamentary group concerned with the role of Police Authorities. Simon lives in Lound, North Nottinghamshire, and is keen to raise the profile of the Police Authority throughout the county. He will endeavour to use his knowledge of policing, gathered over thirty years of researching and working with constabularies, to meet the significant challenges faced by Nottinghamshire Police.

Cllr Eric Kerry
-
Eric is very proud of his Nottinghamshire roots and has lived and worked in the county nearly all of his life. His work has been wide and varied, starting with management accountancy training in a Boots career lasting 23 years.
Following reorganisations, opportunities arose in sales and marketing and this led to him forming in his own small cosmetics business, now into its second decade. "My experience includes working in and with public and private, small and large organisations and I believe this will help me to understand the complexity of service delivery by the Police and its partner organisations."
In parallel, Eric's political career started in 2003 when he was elected to Broxtowe Borough council. He was re-elected in 2007.
Eric was recently elected as County Councillor for Beeston South & Attenborough, where he has lived for over 30 years. He is Chairman of a local Community Centre and a school governor. Eric also played a leading role in saving Notts County FC from extinction in 2003 and subsequently was chosen by fans to be a supporter director. He has recently relinquished his position on the club's board following a takeover by a Middle East consortium and this will allow him to commit more time to the community.
"I believe that anti-social behaviour can affect our resident's quality of life as much as major crime, each impacting on everyone in different ways. As a member of the Nottinghamshire Police Authority, I will work to service the policing needs of our communities at all levels. I will fight for the improvement of processes and reducing form filling, strive for more Bobbies on the beat, and help to deliver local priorities."

Councillor Keith Longdon
-
Keith was elected to represent Eastwood on the County Council in June 2009. He also represents Eastwood South on Broxtowe Borough Council (since early 2010), and has been a member of Eastwood Town Council since 2007. In 2009-10, Keith was Eastwood Town Mayor. As part of this role, he raised £2500 for his chosen charities - Eastwood Age Concern and the lung function department at City Hospital.
Keith was born and raised in Nottinghamshire. After attending school, he worked for Aristoc Hosiery for 41 years. After working his way up, he spent 25 years as a quality control manager and seven years as a product-engineering manager. In this time, he achieved B.S.5750 and I.S.9000 quality awards for the company. Aristoc was the first hosiery company in the UK to achieve the award, which was presented at Westminster. Keith also won a Courtaulds quality award for his work on statistical process control.
Alongside his councillor duties, Keith chairs Eastwood Neighbourhood Watch and has been involved with Age Concern and other local community groups. He was governor at Eastwood Junior School for four years, and is currently a governor at Eastwood Comprehensive.
Keith has been married to his wife Annette for 47 years, and she is well known locally for managing Eastwood Age Concern. Together, they have two grown-up sons and three grandchildren.
Keith’s family is one of his top priorities, particularly his grandsons. He was a keen cricket player until a broken leg ended his participation in most sports. However, he still enjoys watching sports, and supports Nottingham Forest FC as a season ticket holder.

Cllr Ian Malcolm

Ian Malcolm was a Local Government Officer for 28 years with Nottinghamshire County Council and Nottingham City Council.
He represented Clifton West Ward on Nottinghamshire County Council from 1993 to 1998, and has been a Nottingham City Councillor since 1995. His present ward is Clifton South.
He is Vice Chair of the City Council’s Development Control Committee and represents the City Council on a number of outside bodies apart from the Police Authority, including Nottingham University Court, Nottingham High School Governors, Glapton Primary School Governors, Nottinghamshire Community Safety Trust, The Sherwood Foresters Museum Trustees, the Greater Nottingham Rapid Transit Limited and the National Ice Centre Limited.
During 1999/2000 Ian was Deputy Lord Mayor of Nottingham and in 2000/2001 he was Lord Mayor of Nottingham.
Ian is a member of GMB, the Cooperative Party, The Labour Party and St Mary's Church in Clifton Village where he is Churchwarden.

Philip Marsh JP

Philip Marsh is an Independent Magistrate Member appointed to the Authority in July 2011.
He is a volunteer of many years standing and is the Chairman of North Notts Crossroads Scheme, which provides support to carers in North Nottinghamshire.
He is also a Trustee of the Nottinghamshire Community Foundation and Chairman of Fairshare initiative for three estates in Sutton-in Ashfield aimed at Social Regeneration.
In addition, he has been Magistrate for 28 years and was Chairman of the Mansfield bench from 2007-2010.
Now retired, he spent most of his working life in mental health services with the last 10 years spent in developing and managing specialist Forensic Secure Services in the independent sector.
He is a local man born in Sutton -in-Ashfield and retains a keen interest in Mental Health issues especially those related to Forensic Services.

Alan Street

Alan has been an Independent member since 2003.
With a background in trading standards and consumer protection culminating as Chief Executive of the Institute of Trading Standards Alan brings a wealth of experience in looking after consumer interests at a local and national level. Currently Alan is a member of the Lord Chancellor’s Legal Services Consultation Panel.
"After a long and happy career in the world of consumer protection, I can use that experience to good effect on behalf of communities to seek to improve services to the public. An opportunity to work with others having similar beliefs simply adds to the level of commitment and expectation of success. The time demands are completely off-set by the enjoyment of making progress."

Steff Webber

Steff has pursued a career with a focus on improving people's lives through direct work with individuals and communities and the infrastructure that supports them. She has a strong commitment to social justice and a passion for breaking down the barriers that hold people back from realising their potential. Her experience ranges across social care and community work and neighbourhood management, having worked within local voluntary sector organisations and the County and City Council.
She enjoys maintaining a balance between direct work and strategic involvement. As a resident of Nottingham City she has a personal commitment to ensure the city's neighbourhoods offer the best opportunities to their residents. She sits on the board of various local organisations and social businesses and also is a member of the National Community forum an advisory group to the department of Communities and Local Government.
More recently she has become the Authority’s representative on Ashfield and Mansfield Crime and Disorder partnerships.
"I have been on the Authority since April 2007. I have a huge commitment to making our neighbourhoods a safer place to live. I aim to represent the views of those who feel they have no voice, finding a way to bridge the gap to those communities who often feel excluded and marginalized by the statutory decision making processes and forums."

Cllr Gordon Wheeler

Gordon Wheeler was appointed to the Authority in March 2010, joining at the start of an ambitious change management programme for both the Authority and the Force. He is also the Vice Chairman of the Change Management Board.
He has been in the public sector arena for over 30 years, a background that will enable him to use his experience and skills to enhance the Authority's work, and make a swift contribution to its improvement plans.
He is pleased to have been appointed, and said after his appointment was announced: "Members of the Police Authority must work together with the Chief Constable and her senior team, offering support through what will be challenging times ahead."
A Conservative County Councillor for West Bridgford West, Gordon has lived in the area for nearly 20 years, is married with three grown up children and is an ardent supporter of Nottm Forest FC.
He is also a member of Nottinghamshire Fire Authority, a committee member of the South Notts College of Further Education and a Rushcliffe Borough Councillor.
