- Jean became a member of the Authority in 1999 and was Chairman of the Authority’s Monitoring and Audit Committee from 2001. She was a tremendously committed member of the Authority, who had an exceptional insight and understanding of the important policing issues.
This is a perpetual award, and each year it considers a different aspect of policing that makes a difference to the quality of life in communities, something about which Mrs Varnam felt strongly.
This year the Jean Varnam Community Award will be given to the individual, business or voluntary organisation deemed to have introduced the most successful initiative to reduce crime in the community.
